3RD THROUGH 5TH GRADERS’ CAMP, JULY 8-12

THEME: ROAD TRIP: The idea of a road trip can strike dread into the hearts of most preteens.Long, boring hours squeezed between siblings. Leg cramps from a hugecooler tucked under your feet. “Holding it” longer than you thought humanlypossible. Our lives are very much a road trip.

At Angeles Crest this summer,we will travel alongside the story of a water walker, one of the first followersof Jesus – a fisherman, a truth speaker, a passionate believer, and an occasional doubter. Together, we will tap into the amazing insights of his “road trip” and how ours can be all the better.

SPEAKER: AMBERLY NEESE

Amberlyis a national speaker, author, and humorist with a passion for pointing preteen students to the joy found only in Christ. Amberly received her Master’s degree from Biola University. She is excited to take your students and leaders on a “Road Trip” through the amazing story of Peter.

REFUGE (YOUNG ADULTS MINISTRY) – MONDAYS, 7 PM: Are you a young adult – 18 to 28ish years old – and want more than just church on Sunday mornings? Now you can get together with other young adults on Monday nights here at Gold Coast. This time usually consists of fellowship, worship, prayer, Bible study and group discussions. The weekly topic varies (presently, it’s the New Testament book of John), but the group likes to go deep in scripture and work through relevant issues that young adults are facing. Things are planned outside of the usual Monday evening gatherings (movie nights, brunches, etc.) on a regular basis so you can hang out and enjoy each other’s company. Have questions? Please contact Jeff Atchison at 805-751-3379 or jeff@calvaryoxnard.org.

TOMORROWwe’re drilling down on Hebrews 4:12,13 in our current message series through the book of Hebrews: For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

These verses are about the power God’s Word is to have in our lives.

Floyd Schneider tells about aChristian university student who shared a room with a Muslim. As they became friends, their conversation turned to their beliefs. The believer asked the Muslim if he’d ever read the Bible. He answered no, but then asked if the Christian had ever read the Koran.

The believer responded, “No, I haven’t, but I’m sure it would be interesting. Why don’t we read both together, once a week, alternating books?” The young man accepted the challenge, their friendship deepened, and during the second term he became a believer in Jesus.

One evening, late in the term, he burst into the room and shouted at the long-time believer, “You deceived me!”

“What are you talking about?” the believer asked.

The new believer opened his Bible and said, “I’ve been reading it through, like you told me, and just read that the Word is living and active!” He grinned. “You knew all along that the Bible contained God’s power and that the Koran is a book like any other. I never had a chance!”

“And now you’ll hate me for life?” queried the believer.

“No,” he answered, “but it was an unfair contest.”

Thanks to all who prayed for me this week while I was away at the discipleship conference as well as visiting my mom. It was a rich and needed time.

Love you guys,

Scott
