COULD JESUS REALLY BE TEMPTED?
Jesus is both 100% God and 100% human
Jn 1:14; Col 1:15-19; 2:9; Php 2:5-11; Lk 2:40, 5:17; Mk 6:4-6
Jesus’ temptations were real and yet, he
didn’t sin Heb 4:14-16; 2 Cor 5:21
JESUS FACED THE SAME TEMPTATIONS WE FACE:
Temptation #1: Trusting in himself rather than in God
Temptation #2: Putting God’s faithfulness to the test
Temptation #3: Taking a shortcut to avoid pain
LESSONS ON TEMPTATION FROM MATTHEW 4:1-11:
It often follows “mountaintop” experiences- Mt 3:17
It often attacks when/where most vulnerable – Mt 4:3
It will skew/slant scripture – Mt 4:6
It often promises what God will provide – Mt 4:9
It doesn’t last – Mt 4:11
