Vision and Values – (Part 5)

We’re here to build a community which proclaims the gospel of Jesus by loving people into the kingdom of God, training disciples to make disciples, growing people into spiritual maturity, and transforming our world through personal renewal.

Community: a group of people connected by something in common.

Biblically this community has been known as the bride, vineyard, flock of Christ and the

Body of Christ. (Matthew 9:15, John 15:5, John: 10:14, 1 Corinthians 12)

The cause of this body of believers Jesus Christ.  (Ephesians 2:13-19)

How do we build up/oikodomeo our community? (Ephesians 4:15-16)

Acts 2:42 says,

42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

Five characteristics of the early church that are vital for us.

They were a teaching church. (2 Timothy 2:2, 1 Timothy 1:4, 2 Timothy 3:16-17)

They were a fellowship church/koinonia church. (Acts 2:42, John 1:6-7)

They were a giving church. (Acts 4:32-35, Galatians 6:10, Philippians 4:14-16)

They were a praying church. (Acts 1:14, Colossians 4:2, Romans 12:12)

They were a redeemed church. (Acts 2:36-41, Matthew 16:24-26)

To be a community that will proclaim the Gospel, we must be Gospel driven church.
