Pastor’s Update, May 4, 2018

IN THIS UPDATE:

PRAYER AND PRAISE SERVICE AT GOLD COAST LAST NIGHT: What a special time it was! Just knowing that tens of thousands (perhaps hundreds of thousands?) of Christ-followers around our country were uniting together with us, at the same time, in praising, thanking, confessing, interceding, and petitioning God was truly exhilarating! And partnering in it with another local congregation of believers, Embrace Church, was even better! One of the participants mentioned how he was thinking that 45 to 50 minutes seemed like it would be a long time to pray before the service started but that afterwards, he was surprised how fast the time went!

THE HIGHER GROUND HIKE IS TOMORROW, SATURDAY, MAY 5: A fun hike is planned in Thousand Oaks at the Los Padres Trail and Vista Loop. Along this trail, you will see beautiful wild flowers, oak groves, wooden plank bridges and scenic views of Conejo Valley. You can watch for wildlife and see squirrels, rabbits and birds. The distance is 3.4 miles and the difficulty-rating is moderate. Meet at Starbucks in Camarillo in the Las Posas Shopping Center at 8:30 am. The group will leave by 8:45 am. Bring plenty of water, sunscreen, a hat and camera for pictures! Invite a friend or bring the family to share the experience. A continental breakfast will be served following the hike. Contact Margie Cantu at 805.660.1187 if you have any questions.

SUMMER CAMP FOR KIDS AND YOUTH AT ANGELES CREST WILL BE HERE BEFORE YOU KNOW IT!

Another school year is coming to a close and summer is just around the corner. Craaaazy! As your family’s calendar begins to fill up, the children and student ministries’ teams at Gold Coast Church want to encourage you to make SUMMER CAMP a priority for your student and their friends.

Summer camp at Angeles Crest is a great time of fun, teaching, worship and new friends in a unique remote mountain setting. It’s life-changing, a much-needed spiritual shot in the arm for our students who deal with intense peer pressure and a myriad of challenges and temptations in their day to day lives. Angeles Crest always does a great job of planning a dynamic week that is not to be missed.

When campers aren’t in organized worship or hearing from inspirational speakers, they’re busy with tons of awesome activities like paintball, basketball, digglers (a unique cross between BMX & a scooter), Zip lining, volleyball, archery, a climbing wall, a trampoline, hiking trails, swimming, games and so much more!

The cost is $320 if you make a $100 deposit and turn in the permission slips by May 20. After that date, the cost is $335. Partial scholarships are available so don’t let money be the deciding factor. If you have any questions, feel free to message Sharon (805) 204-8644 or Christian (541) 601-7131.

MEN’S RETREAT AT ANGELES CREST, APRIL 27-29:Come hang out with a bunch of like-minded guys for an awesome weekend of adventure! Frankly, women retreat more often. Pastor’s Update, March 23, 2018

IN THIS UPDATE:

WITH A HEAVY HEART I share with you the passing of our dear sister Laurie DeRemer on Wednesday morning, March 21. Our deepest condolences to Pat, Ryan, Katie, Sophie and the entire DeRemer family. Our prayers for God’s comfort and strength for these loved ones are appreciated very much as this time.

From Pat: My beauty, the love of my life peacefully went to the arms of Jesus to receive her reward this morning at 7:00am with me at her side. Her beautiful blue eyes opened widely and looked deep into my soul before she took her last breath. As most of you know my wife was a remarkable woman who brought light into every life she encountered, especially mine. Please pray for our family as we join you in grieving our loss but rejoicing in Heaven’s gain. We would also ask that you would respect our privacy over the next several days. Please know that your love and support over the past couple of years has sustained and encouraged us. We could never adequately thank you enough for all of the prayers, hugs, meals, visits, cards, texts, emails, phone calls sprinkled with grace, compassion and love. We are truly blessed!   Love, Pat and family
